| How
to Apply with Our Agency |
|
Thank you for your interest in working with us. Before we start
you on the application process, first we should be sure that
you are in the right place.
Advantage Plus Agency provides primarily in-home care. Occasionally
we get an assignment in a facility, but most of our jobs are
in the client’s home.
We provide primarily caregivers for the elderly. We also provide
childcare (nannies, newborn nurses and babysitters) and medical
care (LVNs and RNs). We also get requests sometimes for domestic
staff such as housekeepers, drivers and gardeners. Occasionally
we get requests for other kinds of personnel such as medical
or dental assistants (in an office setting), personal assistants
(in home or office settings) or other medical staff such as
physical therapists, occupational therapists, case managers
and others.
We get requests for live-in and live-out caregivers. Some of
our clients pay their caregivers directly and some pay through
the agency. Taxes may or may not be withheld from your pay depending
upon the job. You must have U.S. work authorization (i.e. green
card, work permit, social security number, etc.) and a valid
state ID to apply with us.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS
Apply online here now
or follow our application / hiring process has six steps before you can
begin working. They are:
1. Pre-Qualification
2. Application
3. Background Check
4. Reference Checks
5. Orientation Appointment
6. Orientation and Training day
The LIVESCAN step is skipped for those applicants who have
already completed their criminal background check or have it
included in their state-issues certificate or license.
Step One – Pre-Qualification
When a prospective applicant calls or walks in inquiring about
work, the first thing we do is ask what kind of job they are
seeking so that we can identify what are the minimum requirements
that apply to that job. Then we verify the applicant has the
minimum requirements.
If the applicant has the minimum requirements we can take their
application. If the applicant does not have all the minimum
requirements, we can provide them guidance on how and where
they can get them and advise them to return to the agency to
complete the application when they have done so.
The minimum requirements vary depending upon the job you are
seeking.

The minimum requirements for all personal services assure our
clients that all of our personnel are properly qualified for
the position. This assurance is fundamental to the reliability
and quality of the agency, and it is essential that we maintain
this standard with every worker. You must ensure that you keep
all requirements current, and allowing any requirement to lapse
may cause you to be suspended from working until it is brought
current. Whenever your certifications, licenses or other documentation
expire, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to renew it. All positions
require a background check and references checked.
You must have all of the minimum requirements specified to
apply with Advantage Plus Agency. In the past we accepted applications
from people who didn’t have the requirements but promised to
complete them. Processing these people cost the agency significant
time and money, and most of them never did complete their requirements
and therefore could never work with us. Today, we don’t accept
promises. If you don’t have your minimum requirements completed
we will not accept your application until you do.
In addition to the minimum requirements stated above, state
law requires that all our personnel have a criminal background
check done. We must do this check before you can start working,
except that
- RNs, LVNs, CNAs, and HHAs all have a criminal background
check done as a part of the licensure / certification process
from the state. If your state license or certification is
current, then you do not need another background check done;
or,
- If you have had a criminal background check done by another
employer within the last year and you can provide with us
a copy of the result of that check, then you will not need
to have another background check done; or,
- If you are a current member of Trustline (or another legitimate
background service), you can provide us with your Trustline
number. When verified, you will not need to complete any further
criminal background check.
We use the Department of Justice’s LIVESCAN system to conduct
criminal background checks. We will give you a form to complete
and take to an authorized LIVESCAN operator. When you have the
check done there is a cost of approximately $50 to complete
the background check that you will need to pay to the LIVESCAN
operator.
If you need to have the background check completed but you
cannot afford the cost of the LIVESCAN service, please do not
submit your application until you can afford to get the LIVESCAN
done.
Step Two – Application, Interview & Photograph
Normally we accept applications only in person, by appointment.
The application takes about 20-30 minutes to complete on average
and is entirely in English. All supporting documentation should
be submitted with the application including ID, references,
certifications, etc. We keep a copy of all these documents in
your file.
After the application we will interview you and take your photograph.
When you come to apply you should be dressed to interview and
have your photograph taken. The interview usually takes about
10-20 minutes.
When you submit the application we will provide you with the
LIVESCAN form to get your background check completed.
After applying, if you need to have your background check completed
you will be given a LIVESCAN form and instructions for completing
the check. If you already have your background check completed,
you can skip step three.
Step Three – LIVESCAN
Fill in the highlighted sections of the LIVESCAN form we provided
to you. On the instruction page is a list of some locations
where you can get the LIVESCAN done, and an Internet link to
a much larger list if you need additional location options.
Choose the LIVESCAN location you prefer and take the form there.
They will keep the original copy of the form and give you back
the remaining two copies (one copy is for the agency). You pay
them for the service and they will scan your fingerprints for
the background check.
You keep one of the remaining copies and give the other to
us. This informs us that you have completed the LIVESCAN and
we can go online a few days later to retrieve the results of
the check. You can mail, fax or deliver our copy to us anytime
after you complete the LIVESCAN.
Step Four – Reference Checks
While you are handling your LIVESCAN we will verify the references
you provided in your application.
Step Five – Orientation Appointment
If your background check is clear and we can verify your references,
we will call you to set up the appointment for your orientation
and training day. We usually hold these on Saturdays.
Step Six – Orientation and Training Day
Our orientation and training day is divided into two sessions.
All applicants attend the morning session, which is devoted
to agency policies and procedures. You will be trained, tested
and you will complete all your hiring documents at that time.
You will be issued a Caregiver Binder and taught how to use
it.
After lunch, all companion, CNA, HHA and nurse applicants will
go to our training offices for an afternoon of custom in-home
care training.
We only conduct these orientation / training days every other
week. We will schedule you for the soonest possible date.
You are not paid for this day, but you receive the training
and certificate (a $75 value) at no cost to you.
At the end of this orientation / training day, you are then
eligible for assignments.
*DMV Printout with Valid Car Insurace - If
you will be driving as part of your work assignment we need
a copy of your driver’s license, proof of valid car insurance,
and a DMV print out of your driving record (no more then 2 years
old).
